Individual Health Insurance in Valrico
We help single adults, the self-employed and anyone between jobs choose a health plan that fits their doctors, medications and budget. You get side-by-side options from several carriers, with the premium, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum written out before you sign anything.

Coverage Built Around One Person
An individual plan covers you alone, not a spouse or dependents. It is the right fit if you are self-employed, retiring early, leaving a job with group benefits, aging off a parent's plan at 26, or simply paying too much for coverage you rarely use. If you need to cover a partner or children, our family health insurance page is the better starting point.
Most individual plans sold today follow Affordable Care Act rules. That means no one can be turned down or charged more for a pre-existing condition, and every plan covers the same ten essential health benefits. What changes from plan to plan is the cost-sharing structure, the provider network and the drug formulary. Those three details decide what a year of coverage actually costs you.
Our firm is an independent insurance agency. Because we can quote more than one carrier, we put several plans side by side in writing and explain where each one saves money and where it exposes you to cost.

What Our Individual Plan Review Covers
- 01
Doctor and hospital network check
We confirm whether your current physicians and preferred hospitals are in-network for each plan. An HMO or EPO with a narrow network can carry a lower premium but pay nothing outside it, so we check before you commit.
- 02
Drug formulary lookup
We look up each medication you take on every carrier's formulary and note its tier. A drug on tier 4 under one plan can sit on tier 2 under another, which can change your monthly cost more than the premium does.
- 03
Deductible and out-of-pocket math
We compare deductibles, copays, coinsurance and the out-of-pocket maximum. Then we show what a light year and a heavy year would cost under each plan.
- 04
Subsidy eligibility
If your income qualifies, a premium tax credit can lower your monthly bill. We estimate it, and our ACA Marketplace Plans page explains how those credits work in more detail.
- 05
Written side-by-side summary
You leave with a written comparison of each plan's premium, deductible, network type and key copays. No add-on riders appear later that were not on that page.
Questions about Individual Health Insurance?
Call(813) 851-3857Signs It Is Time to Look at Individual Coverage
Your job-based coverage is ending
Losing employer coverage opens a special enrollment period, usually 60 days. COBRA keeps the same plan but often at the full, unsubsidized premium, so it is worth comparing first.
You went out on your own
Contractors, freelancers and small business owners with no employees need coverage that does not depend on a payroll.
Your 26th birthday is coming
Coverage under a parent's policy ends at 26, and the rules count that loss as a reason to enroll on your own. Let the window close and you may go without a plan until the next open enrollment.
Your renewal notice jumped
Carriers reprice and change networks and formularies each year. Your plan last year may not be the best value this year.
You moved into the area
A move to Valrico, Brandon or elsewhere in Hillsborough County changes the plans available to you and opens a window to enroll.
How a Consultation Works
- 1
Start with a phone call
We ask about your age, county, income range, tobacco use, doctors and medications. Those are the details that set your premium and narrow the plan list.
- 2
Compare plans across carriers
We pull individual plans from multiple carriers and screen them against your network and drug needs. Plans that fail either test drop off the list.
- 3
Review the numbers in writing
We walk through the written comparison by phone, video or at our office. You see why each plan costs what it does, not just the monthly figure.
- 4
Enroll and confirm
Once you choose, we complete the enrollment with you and confirm the effective date. We also tell you when your first premium payment is due, since coverage does not start until it is paid.
What Sets the Price of an Individual Plan
Our review never costs you anything. The carrier you end up picking pays our commission, so no bill ever comes from us. ACA rules also bar carriers from pricing your plan on health history, so the premium moves on a short list of factors, and the plan design decides what you owe each time you use care.
- Your age and tobacco status
- Premiums rise with age on a set federal curve. Tobacco users can be charged a surcharge on top of the base rate.
- Metal tier
- Bronze plans have low premiums and high deductibles. Gold plans flip that. Silver sits between and is the tier that unlocks extra cost-sharing reductions at certain incomes.
- Network type
- HMOs and EPOs usually cost less each month than PPOs because they limit out-of-network coverage.
- Income and tax credits
- Your projected annual income sets any premium tax credit. A change in income during the year can change what you owe at tax time, so we explain how to report it.
Individual Health Insurance Questions
Can I buy an individual plan outside open enrollment?
Only if your life changes in a way the rules recognize, for example your other coverage ends, you relocate, you get married or you age off a parent's plan. Each of those opens a special enrollment period, usually 60 days long. Without one, you wait for open enrollment, which generally runs from November 1 to January 15.
Will a pre-existing condition raise my premium?
Not on an ACA-compliant plan. Carriers cannot deny you or charge more because of your health history. Your condition still matters when choosing a plan, because it affects which network and formulary will keep your costs down.
Is it cheaper to buy through you than directly from the carrier?
The premium is the same either way, since carriers file their rates. The difference is that we compare several carriers at once and put the trade-offs in writing. There is no fee for the consultation.
Should I keep COBRA or switch to an individual plan?
It depends on how far you are into your deductible and whether you qualify for a tax credit. COBRA keeps your current doctors and deductible progress, while an individual plan may cost far less each month. We price both so you can compare.
Will my medical plan pay for cleanings or eye exams?
For adults, most medical plans leave out routine teeth cleanings, fillings, eye exams and glasses. Those benefits come as separate policies you can carry next to your health plan. Our dental insurance and vision insurance pages walk through how each one works.
