ACA Marketplace Plans in Valrico

We compare the ACA marketplace plans open to you, estimate your premium tax credit from your expected income and put every option in writing before you enroll. You see each plan's premium, deductible and out-of-pocket maximum side by side, with no fee for the consultation.

How marketplace plans work and who they suit

ACA marketplace plans are health plans for individuals and families sold on HealthCare.gov, the exchange Florida relies on. Each one includes the ten essential health benefits and cannot reject you over a pre-existing condition. Based on the income you expect this year, a premium tax credit may bring your monthly cost down.

They tend to be the best choice if you have no coverage through work, if your employer's plan costs too much for your family, or if you are self-employed. As an independent insurance agency, we can enroll you with several carriers on the exchange, and your premium matches what you would pay enrolling yourself.

If you earn too much to get a tax credit, weigh these plans against off-exchange choices on our Individual Health Insurance page.

What our marketplace review covers

Tax credit estimate from your income
We work from your projected modified adjusted gross income and tax family size, the two numbers the exchange uses to set your advance premium tax credit. Getting them close now helps you avoid owing money back when you file Form 8962 with your taxes.
Metal tier comparison
Bronze, silver, gold and platinum plans cover the same benefits. They differ in how cost is split between premium and out-of-pocket spending, and we show where each tier puts the money.
Cost-sharing reduction check
If your income falls in the qualifying range, a silver plan can carry a lower deductible and smaller copays than its standard version. That extra help only exists on silver, so we flag it before you choose a bronze plan by premium alone.
Network and formulary lookup
We check your doctors in each plan's provider directory and look up your medications on the drug formulary, including the tier each one sits on. Many marketplace plans use HMO or EPO networks with little or no out-of-network coverage, so this step decides a lot.
Written side-by-side quote
Before you enroll, you get a written comparison showing premium after the tax credit, deductible, out-of-pocket maximum and key copays for each option. Nothing is added after you agree.
Enrollment and yearly review
Once you pick a plan, we complete the exchange application together on the phone, confirm your effective date and explain that the first premium must be paid to the carrier to activate coverage. When open enrollment comes back around, we look at your plan again.

When a marketplace plan deserves a look

  • Your work coverage ended

Losing employer coverage or leaving a job starts a special enrollment period, generally 60 days. If you let it pass, you could go uninsured until the next open enrollment.

  • You earn more or less than before

A raise, reduced pay or new self-employment income shifts your tax credit. Updating it during the year keeps the monthly amount right.

  • Your renewal came with a higher premium

Each year carriers change rates, networks and drug lists. Automatic renewal leaves you on the old plan even if a better match exists now.

  • You are about to turn 26

Coverage through a parent stops at 26, and that loss qualifies you for special enrollment. For many young adults, a marketplace plan is the first coverage they pick on their own.

  • You married, had a baby or moved

Any of these can let you join or change plans outside open enrollment, and any of them can change your tax credit.

How enrollment works with us

  1. 1

Free consultation by phone or video

We ask who needs coverage, what you expect to earn, which doctors you see and what medications you take. Keep last year's tax return and your medication list handy.

  2. 2

    We run the numbers

We pull the plans offered where you live, apply your estimated tax credit and check networks and formularies for each one.

  3. 3

    You review it in writing

We walk you through a written side-by-side quote line by line, so you know exactly what each plan costs and covers before deciding.

  4. 4

    Enroll and confirm

Once you choose, we complete the application with you, confirm the start date and explain how to pay the first premium to the carrier.

What decides your marketplace premium

Carriers set marketplace rates and they are approved for the plan year, so an agent cannot push them up or down. What we do is show which pricing factors fit your situation and what you pay after the tax credit. The consultation is never billed to you, because the insurer you enroll with pays our commission.

Income and tax family size
The tax credit is based on how your income compares with the federal poverty level and on the cost of the benchmark silver plan near you. If either changes, so does your net premium.
Ages of the people covered
Under ACA rules, carriers may charge older adults more, up to a set ratio. Each person on the plan is priced individually.
Tobacco
Carriers in Florida can charge a tobacco surcharge, and the tax credit does not cover that added cost.
County pricing
Marketplace rates in Florida are set county by county. Valrico uses Hillsborough County pricing, which may not match neighboring counties.
Tier and network
From the same carrier, a bronze EPO and a gold PPO can differ widely in premium, largely because of their cost-sharing design and how broad the network is.

Common marketplace questions

Something not covered here? (813) 851-3857

Does going through you cost more than using HealthCare.gov myself?

No. A marketplace premium is the same with or without an agent. The insurer you choose pays our commission, and the consultation never costs you anything.

When is enrollment open?

HealthCare.gov open enrollment lasts from November 1 through January 15, and choosing a plan by December 15 starts coverage on January 1. During the rest of the year, you need a life change to qualify, such as marrying, having or adopting a child, moving to a new coverage area or losing your current health coverage. The special enrollment period after that change usually lasts 60 days.

What if my actual income does not match my estimate?

Your advance tax credit is settled on your federal tax return. Earn more than you projected and you may pay some back; earn less and you may receive the difference. Updating your application during the year keeps that gap small, and we can help you make the change.

Is my doctor covered?

Only when they belong to the plan's network. We look up each of your doctors by name in the carrier directory before you pick a plan. Calling the office to confirm is still a good idea, because directories change during the year.

Is the lowest-priced bronze plan the right pick?

It can be, particularly if you seldom need care. Bronze deductibles run high, though, and if you qualify for cost-sharing reductions, a silver plan may cost slightly more each month while lowering your deductible a great deal. Your written comparison shows both side by side.

Can dental or vision be added?

Certain marketplace plans include dental for children, but adult dental and vision usually come separately. We can quote them with your health plan; our Dental Insurance and Vision Insurance pages explain more.
