Accident Insurance in Valrico

Accident insurance pays you a set cash amount when a covered injury happens, such as a broken wrist or an ambulance ride. We compare benefit schedules from several carriers and put the premium and payouts in writing before you enroll.

What accident coverage does, and what it does not

An accident plan is supplemental coverage. It does not pay your doctor or hospital. It pays you, according to a fixed benefit schedule: a listed amount for a fracture, another for a dislocation, another for an urgent care visit or a night in the hospital. You can spend that money on your health plan's deductible, a copay, gas to appointments or the paycheck you lose while you heal.

Because it pays fixed amounts, it works alongside a major medical plan rather than replacing one. It does not count as qualifying health coverage under the ACA, so we pair it with your existing Individual Health Insurance, Family Health Insurance or an ACA Marketplace Plan. It makes the most sense when your deductible is high and an injury would leave a gap you would have to cover in cash.

What we cover in an accident plan review

  1. 01

    Benefit schedule, line by line

Carriers list a dollar amount for each covered event, and two plans with similar premiums can pay very differently for the same injury. We lay the schedules next to each other so you can see what a closed fracture, a laceration needing stitches or an ambulance trip pays under each one.

  2. 02

    Off-the-job or on-and-off-the-job

Certain policies pay only for injuries that happen off the clock, because an employer's workers' comp policy is expected to pick up anything that happens at work. Other policies pay wherever you get hurt. We look at how you earn a living so you are not paying twice for the same protection or left without any.

  3. 03

    Exclusions in plain language

Every policy lists what it will not pay for. Common examples include injuries tied to intoxication, certain motorsports or self-inflicted harm. We read those clauses with you before you sign anything.

  4. 04

    Who is on the policy

Coverage can be written for you alone, you and a spouse, or the whole family including children. We price each tier so you can decide whether adding the kids is worth the extra premium.

  5. 05

    A written quote before enrollment

You get the premium, the coverage tier and the key benefit amounts written out. No riders get added later without your say.

Signs an accident plan is worth a look

  • Your deductible is several thousand dollars

A high-deductible health plan keeps premiums down, but one fall off a ladder can use up that deductible fast. A cash benefit helps close that gap.

  • Your kids play contact or travel sports

Youth football, soccer and cheer bring sprains and broken bones. Family accident coverage pays per injury, so a second incident in the same season still pays.

  • You have little paid sick time

If missing a week of work means missing a week of pay, money that arrives directly to you matters more than a lower copay.

  • You work with your hands or outdoors

Landscaping, construction and other physical work raise the odds of injury. We confirm whether a plan pays for on-the-job accidents before you count on it.

How the consultation works

  1. 1

A short call about your situation

We ask what health plan you already have, your deductible, who needs coverage and what kind of work you do. That tells us which plan types fit and which would duplicate benefits you already have.

  2. 2

    Side-by-side carrier options

As an independent insurance agency, we can quote accident plans from more than one carrier. We show you the options together, by phone, video or at our office.

  3. 3

    Your written quote

We send the premium, the coverage tier and the benefit amounts you care about in writing. You can take time to compare before deciding anything.

  4. 4

    Enrollment and claim basics

If you choose a plan, we handle the application with you. We also explain what records the carrier asks for when you file a claim, such as an itemized bill or a visit summary, so you are ready if you ever need it.

What moves the premium

Accident premiums depend mostly on how much the plan pays and how many people it covers. We explain each factor in your written quote so you can see why one option costs more than another. Sitting down with us carries no fee, and having us check your options costs you nothing, since our pay comes from the carrier you pick rather than from you.

Size of the benefit schedule
A plan that pays more per fracture, hospital day or follow-up visit costs more each month. We help you pick amounts that match your deductible instead of the biggest number on the page.
Coverage tier
Individual, couple and family tiers are priced differently. Adding children usually costs one flat amount no matter how many kids you have, though this varies by carrier.
Where the plan pays
Paying for injuries at work as well as off the clock raises the monthly premium. When your employer already carries workers' comp for you, a plan limited to injuries outside work can be the leaner, sensible pick.
Occupation
Some carriers group jobs by risk level. Physical, outdoor or vehicle-heavy work can raise the premium on plans that include on-the-job injuries.

Accident insurance questions

Will accident insurance replace my health insurance?

No. It pays fixed cash amounts for covered injuries and does not pay your medical bills directly. It is not qualifying health coverage under the ACA. Keep your major medical plan and use accident coverage to fill the gaps it leaves.

Who gets the money when I file a claim?

You do, unless you choose otherwise. The carrier pays the scheduled amount to you, and you can use it for anything, from your deductible to rent.

Is there a waiting period?

Many accident plans begin paying for injuries soon after the effective date, but some carriers set a short waiting period or limit certain benefits at first. We point out the exact timing for each plan in your written quote.

Will a new plan pay for an injury I already had?

Not usually. Benefits apply to accidents that occur on or after your effective date. Ongoing visits for something that happened earlier, like a knee hurt last spring, generally fall outside the policy, so it is worth enrolling before you need it.

Can I add accident coverage to a Marketplace plan?

Yes. Accident plans are sold separately and can sit alongside an ACA Marketplace Plan or any other health coverage. Your Marketplace subsidy does not apply to the accident premium, so we show that cost on its own.
